This course will focus on the newest DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual), including what are the main diagnostic categories and how DSM-5 differs from DSM-4. Social Workers will learn how to provide accurate diagnosis and assessment that is necessary to make treatment decisions, as well as for insurance reimbursement.

Psychopharmacology for Social Workers


This course will help social workers feel more confident with the frequently daunting world of psychotropic medications.  It will provide a brief review of diagnosis that respond well to medications and help participants to understand the differences between medication classes.  It will review mechanisms of actions, indications, side effects and efficacy.  It will also teach learning techniques to help organize different classes of medications as well as strategies to help learn and remember mechanisms of actions and side effects.

Eating Disorders

This course will help social workers feel more confident in the diagnosis and treatment of eating disorders. DSMV diagnostic criteria for Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder, and PICA will be reviewed. Evidenced Based interventions for the treatment of eating disorders including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy will be discussed.

Human Behavior

What constitutes Medical Neglect When Dealing with Children with a Mental Illness

This course will help social workers feel more confident with their ability to assess for the following types of abuse or neglect- sexual, physical, emotional, educational and medical. Medical neglect will focused on addressing children with a mental illness. Impact of Trauma on Child’s Development
